Southside Diner is absolutely amazing! I think this was our third visit. It reminds me of back home country cooking with the meatloaf, chopped steak, and turkey or roast beef boats being my favorites here. We rarely make it out to Mt. Vernon, but this is our go-to stop for getting a bite to eat in the area. Southside Diner is about 90 minutes from Columbus, but we always stop here during our annual trip to visit Schnormeier Gardens. It's become kind of a tradition for us. It's an awesome diner! The service is always great. The ambiance is classic diner with seating in the front, and additional tables and booth seating in the back. Hashbrown casserole was absolutely awesome! The Eggs Benedict was good. The only minor complaint was the hollandaise sauce was separating. Our server was also very friendly and attentive.

We were in Mt Vernon to visit the Ariel Foundation Park. As usual. I asked Yelp for a diner or pub "near current location ". My fellow Yelpers have the Southside Diner great reviews so that's where we headed. The reviews were spot on and this was a great place to eat. It is truly a diner with a great menu that includes a number of daily blue plate specials. The interior decor has a lot of 50's and 60's memorabilia and is very interesting. The service was great and the food was delicious. I had their Southside burger that came with lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, onions, bacon, and blue cheese. It was excellent. I also ordered a side of fries that were also good. My wife ordered steak tips served over mashed potatoes (one of the daily blue plate specials). The serving size was big enough for a small family and it was also delicious. Came with a biscuit on the side. We thoroughly enjoyed the diner and our meals. Great food and great service.

I went to school at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and I, along with my family, have fallen in love with Southside. The service is great, and portions are huge! I highly recommend their meatloaf, but the entire menu is wonderful. The staff is great and the atmosphere puts you right back in the 50s! Such a hidden jam in Mount Vernon!

Meet family members from there. Food very good and save room for the best homemade desserts. We had no waiting! Waiteress checked on us a good amount of times.

Southside is a local treasure. I love their 50s theme. They serve a great breakfast. Their servers are all very nice and do a great job. They have amazing pies and desserts if you need one for your next party.

As close to quintessentially "diner" as possible. Food: solid! Eggs, hash, potatoes checked the right boxes. Biscuits and gravy -- HUGE, you only need one biscuit. Coffee was solid and fresh. (One exception - the grits were not stirred enough and were dry at the bottom of the bowl.) Service: friendly, fast, efficient and welcoming. Ambiance: roadside diner. Kitschy in an American Pickers sort of way. Looking forward to coming back!

Early morning breakfast with the kiddos before school. Nice little morning busy buzz as we walked in. Seated right away. Hot chocolate warmed each of us up. Breakfast arrived pretty fast, seems like meats, potato casserole were all premade. Cinnamon roll. Sausage gravy - Kids love sausage gravy! Eggs. All 3 orders of over medium eggs not cooked all the way, egg whites were kind of watery Toast tasted like it was made on griddle with oil rather than butter. $39 and some change for 1 adult, 2 children under 12. Will def try pancakes and French toast next time to see if we can find something or change up to lunch. Service was friendly and quick.

I stopped by for some breakfast on a Saturday. Ambiance - the place has many old signs and reminds me of an antique road show. The diner had the classic checkerboard floor. The place was pretty crowded. Service - service was awesome. My coffee cup was always full. Our server offered great suggestions Food - the food was very good. I ordered the Cornbeef Hash with eggs. My only recommendation would be to specify how you want your food. I would have preferred mine with a longer cook. It was still good, but I know next time to specify to make it an even greater experience.

Stopped in, after walk on Kokosing Gap Trail. Ordered breakfast. This diner is fully booked by locals. Two sides. Waitresses are life-ers. Customers have been eating here since they were born. Good food. I added pics of the items we ordered. Toast, has browns, etc were generally average but you come here for the experience and the comfort. Both deliver.
